Alton’s fourth team earned their second successive win, beating Brook’s second team by five wickets in Division Five of the I’Anson League.
The Brewers took a strong team to their bottom-of-the-table clash against Brook and were asked to field first in the searing heat when skipper Martin Green lost the toss.
Steve Ball and Derek Footit opened the bowling and kept things tight for the visitors.
Ball was replaced by Jorja Wright after a brief spell, and it was Wright who made the initial couple of breakthroughs – the second thanks to an excellent catch from Sam Crook.
It took Footit until his final over to add a pair of his own wickets, before the attack was handed over to the spin pairing of Alexander Stratford and Jamie Craig. They also took a pair of wickets each either side of some casual running from the Brook batsmen that saw two of them run out.
Only youngster Freddie Cooper (ten) and Matt Thompkins (11) put up any sort of resistance as the home team were skittled in 27 overs for 65.
The Brewers made hard work of the chase, having to rely on the aggressive Alex Housley (35 not out) to see them home, with five wickets falling at the other end.
The 27-point win moved the Brewers up to mid-table.
Alton’s second team fell to a 57-run defeat at Burridge’s second team in Division One of the Hampshire Cricket League, despite Dan Scott taking seven for 25.
The visitors were asked to field first and missed chances came back to haunt the Brewers as Rajat Parmar made 100 for the home side. Burridge posted an imposing 270 all out, despite the heroics of Scott.
Ben Rolfs made a fine 50, and Matt Crane made 46, but with the run rate creeping up a flurry of late wickets saw Alton bundled out for 213 with two overs remaining.
Alton’s second string fell 57 runs short but had some positives to take as they search for their first win of the season.
Alton third team’s game against Old Basing’s fourth team was cancelled as Old Basing could not raise a side.
Alton first team’s Southern Premier Cricket League T20 Cup game against Fawley was abandoned on Sunday after heavy rain.
