HASLEMERE jumped to second in the Surrey Championship Division Five table behind local rivals Churt with this convincing victory over bottom side Old Emanuel.
Only eight overs were lost to rain and Haslemere, inserted by the visitors, applied themselves to the task of running up a decent total.
Openers Lee Clement and Chris Spooner put on 30 and Haslemere had reached 50 for the loss of only one wicket when Ali Butt set them back by dismissing Sam Williams and Chris Hooker in quick succession.
But Spooner and the ever-reliable Simon Eastment added 43. Eastment went on to make 42, skipper Leigh Thayre and Keaghan Cronin added valuable runs and Haslemere closed on 177-9 in 51 overs – a very competitive total on this big ground with a slow outfield.
It proves easily enough in the end. Saleh Mohammad and Sheikh Aslam were going well at 40 without loss, but then that man Eastment joined the attack and proceeded to take four wickets for the addition of just one run.
Old Emanuel never really recovered. Captain Sajjad Ahmad tried to hold his side together, but Chris May and Cronin worked their way through the lower order and Ollie Ellis castled the number 11 to leave Old Emanuel all out for 113 in 38 overs.
