FARNHAM are home to Camberley in a tasty local derby in the Surrey Championship Division Two this Saturday.
Guy Hicks’ seventh and final year as captain ended with the disappointment of relegation from Division One. He is succeeded by Tom Grimes, with Ciaran Rooney continuing as vice-captain.
Long-serving Ian Thorpe continues to lead the second team (2nd XI Div I) and Dan Jones remains skipper of the Academy XI who again compete in the 3rd XI Div III West.
Haslemere visit Old Pauline on their debut in the Surrey Championship Division Five, having won promotion from the Fullers Surrey League last season.
Leigh Thayre will again lead the side, with Sam Williams as vice-captain. After winning one and losing one of two warm-up games, Haslemere are raring to go and, for the new challenge ahead, the club have recruited an overseas player in the shape of Keaghan Cronin, a leg-spinner/batsman from Brisbane.
The 22-year-old has been a net bowler for Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash.
Another newcomer is Paul Jarmain, formerly of I’Anson club Headley.
Haslemere, who will be playing in a smart new kit provided by new sponsors Waverley Wood Stoves, hold net practice on Thursdays and play midweek Ashurst Cup fixtures on Tuesdays.
One of their league opponents will be nearby Churt who, following last season’s relegation, visit Stoke D’Abernon in their first game.
