THE I’Anson is likely to follow the lead of other leagues and introduce a split season next year, with half the fixtures for traditional ‘time’ cricket, with the option of a declaration, and half for limited overs.

This format is already used in the Surrey Championship, Southern Premier League (top division only) and Fuller’s Surrey League, the aim being to enable players, especially youngsters, to become experienced in both disciplines of the game.

The proposal, including other changes, comes from the I’Anson management committee and follows a series of meetings held during the winter, culminating in the Club Forum in June and a Player Survey.

Again following the example of other leagues, the I’Anson is proposing to restructure the league into ten-team divisions, with the top division grandly titled the Premier Division.

The IMC says in a statement circulated to clubs:

It was apparent that there was a desire for change to the league structure and playing conditions to be in place for the 2017 season. The IMC is proposing the following changes:

* 10 teams per division in divisions 1-5 (Div 6 would have more than 10). The highest division would be named I’Anson Premier Division and the other divisions would be Divisions 1-5.

* Split season for all divisions, half of the games being played as traditional timed games (as now) and the other being ‘overs’ cricket.

* Premier Division – Division 2: 90 overs

* Divisions 3-5: 80 overs

The proposal will be put to clubs at the I’Anson annual delegates’ meeting on November 10.
