GILL Rooney, the long-serving I’Anson Competitions secretary, was amongst the winners at the OSCAs, the Surrey Cricket Foundation’s premier reward and recognition event.

It took place at the Kia Oval and Gill, winner of the Leagues category, received her award from Monty Panesar, the former England spinner, who was the guest after-dinner speaker.

The OSCAS (Surrey Outstanding Services to Cricket Awards) aims to celebrate the impact that hundreds of volunteers have on the game every year across Surrey and South London.

Nominees and guests were invited to the Oval for Surrey’s Royal London Cup fixture against Glamorgan and then enjoyed the awards ceremony and dinner afterwards.

It was a particularly good night for the I’Anson. Apart from Gill Rooney’s accolade, 15-year-old Jenny Bowman, a regular umpire in Division Two matches, won the David Edwards Officiating Award.

Both now go forward to the National OSCAS at Lord’s in October.

Tickets are selling fast for the first I’Anson presentation night, to be held in conjunction with Lashings CC, at Farnham Rugby Club on Friday, October 28.

Former England fast bowler Devon Malcolm will present the awards to the players of the season and re-present the trophies to the division champions.

The evening will include a three-course meal and Lashings will organise various fund-raising activities, finishing with a Q&A with Devon Malcolm.

Numbers are limited to 199 and there are discounts for tables of ten.
