THE finalised new structure for the 2018 I’Anson season has now been distributed to clubs.

Fixtures have been released, following the tricky logistical task undertaken by Kevin Goodship, who succeeded long-serving Ian Webster as fixtures secretary at the last ADM.

It will be a seven-division league. Divisions One, Two, Four and Five will comprise ten teams, Division Three 12 teams, Division Six seven teams and the new Division Seven eight teams.

Division Six has seven sides due to the late withdrawal of Thursley 2nd XI.

Brook will compete in the top division for the first time, while Farncombe, another former Surrey Championship club, enter the I’Anson in Division Three, with their 2nd XI lining up alongside Farncombe Wanderers in Division Five.

The restructuring works out well for some clubs, not so well for others. Headley II (Div 3) and Frimley III (Div 4) are reprieved from relegation, while Churt III find themselves placed in Division Seven, despite finishing third in Division Six last season.

The league hopes that a shorter season will relieve the pressure on clubs with smaller memberships and reduce the number of conceded fixtures (19 teams forfeited games in 2017).

The reduced divisions means that full schedules of fixtures will start on April 28 and end on September 1. However, Kevin Goodship has had to take on board ground availability restrictions and requests for free weeks, and so it will be an extended season for some.

A lone fixture on April 14 will see Farncombe make their I’Anson debut (against Shalford) and the 12-team Division Three will play matches on April 21 and September 22.
