FORMER England fast bowler Devon Malcolm was a special guest at Grayswood Cricket Club’s annual youth awards night.

His vengeful “You guys are history” and devastating spell of 9 for 57 blew away the South Africans at the Oval in 1994 and has become part of English cricketing folklore.

During the Q&A session, Devon had some sensational stories and advice for the youth players, while the club’s coaches paid tribute to outstanding performers from U5s through to U17s. A special mention for the U9s squad who enjoyed an unbeaten season and won their league.

For the coming season, Grayswood’s youth section will be embracing the world of the NatWest T20 Blast, Big Bash and IPL and all the teams will be playing in coloured shirts.

Adrian Kent, Grayswood’s youth manager, said: “Playing in coloured shirts will bring a bit of zing to our matches, make it more fun and will help foster a love of cricket that will hopefully last a lifetime and keep them in the game.”

Youth pre-season coaching starts for 7 to 13-year-olds in February, while summer coaching for 4-17 boys and girls begins in April.

The youth section will again be accommodating mixed gender age groups at Under 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15 and 17. All age groups are coached by ECB qualified coaches.
