LIPHOOK & Ripsley got back on the winning trail after a run of defeats with a convincing 110-run victory over basement side Totton & Eling at Ripsley Park.

Charles Janczur finally won the toss and decided to bat first in the Southern Premier League Division One match.

Rob Nicklin played a loose shot off Ollie Perrin with 41 on the board, but Totton surrendered the initiative by giving the hosts a lot of runs in the field and with extras.

Against one of the weaker attacks Liphook have faced this year, Gabe Broadhurst made 26 before being stumped by Jimmy Taylor and then newcomer Ben Tibble and Suman Ganguly moved the total to 120 without too much trouble.

The visitors were clearly relieved to have the prolific Ganguly caught for a 22-ball 30. Tibble made a disciplined 43 before being fifth man out at 159.

Dan Wrenn took control of the second half of the innings and at 172-7, after a flurry of wickets, Sean Burton joined him in an important partnership of 46.

Wrenn stroked his way to 52 at a run a ball and guided his side to 219 all out in the 48th over, with a couple of poor strokes denying Liphook a final batting point.

Taylor took three catches and made two stumpings on a busy day behind the stumps.

It immediately looked a very decent score when Ganguly removed Wayne Lockey and Perrin in the first over of Totton’s reply. The luckless Perrin had dashed back from Heathrow to play in the game.

Thereafter, Totton relied heavily on Taylor and when Burton bowled him for 34, the writing was on the wall for the visitors.

Sticking with their seamers and holding all their catches, a fired-up Liphook took the last seven wickets for 51 runs and Totton were dismissed for 101.

Ganguly took 4-19 in 9.3 unforgiving overs and Burton, having a good day, claimed 3-35 in 10.

“It was the best combined spell of bowling and fielding I have witnessed from us this year,” said skipper Janczur. “If we can maintain that form in the field, we will win most of our games in the run-in.”

On Sunday, Liphook, under the guise of ‘Ripsley Renegades’, bid to reach the semi-finals of the British Gas SPL T20 Cup when they host Sarisbury in the last eight. The bar will be open from 2pm, with music and a free pool. The game starts at 3pm.
