ALTON, who entertain Havant in their opening Southern Electric Premier League limited-overs match this Saturday, are looking to push towards the upper reaches of the Premier Division, having finished a lowly eighth last year.
The squad looks more experienced and balanced this campaign.
Overseas signing Dan Hutton, from Melbourne University, should add more stability at the top of the order. Alton managed most of last season without injured overseas star Dewayne Bowden, but Hutton’s solid presence will only strengthen the line-up.
Scott Myers continues as captain and the squad looks to have a good mix of youth and experience. Alex Hammond performed well at the top of the order in 2015, while, of the older players, Michael Heffernan was in superb form in the middle.
Alex Hughes will return from RAF duty when available, forming a potent seam attack alongside Ben Mortimer, Toby Salmon and Dan Scott. Spinners Jack Myers and Julian Ballinger will be supported by Hutton.
Of the youngsters, Daniel Trim and Tom Paul will be pushing for regular first-team spots after impressing in the second XI last season.
Relegated from the SEPL Division Three, the 2nd XI hope to perform strongly in the Hampshire League County One under the leadership of Steve Ball. Consistency with the bat is key to a successful season.
The 3rd XI, competing in County Four North, will be captained by Ian Mason and the side aims to blood several of the youngsters coming through from the successful colts section.
The 4th XI are already underway in the I’Anson Division?Five, while the Ladies XI are focussed on a challenge for the Hampshire Women’s League Division? One title, with several young members pushing for places.
