I’ANSON Division Three leaders Brook notched up their ninth win of the season, beating Thursley by five wickets.
Rhodri Williams and Ollie Eccles removed the home team’s openers cheaply, but Derek Agge (43) and Mahmood counter-attacked and at 65-2, Thursley were looking good for a decent total. However, a good catch in the deep by Charlie Warburton swung the game back Brook’s way and Jon King and Paul Challinor ran through the later batting. Thursley all out for 96.
A first-baller for James Walters and some sharp early overs from Liam Larby had a few nerves gangling in the dressing-room, but Toby Pheasant was soon into his stride and played his best innings of the season. Agge finally dismissed Pheasant for 50, but he had done enough to ensure the eight points.
Brook increased their lead over Tilford II who drew a thrilling game away to Blackheath II, while Tongham moved above Thursley into third place after beating Dogmersfield II. Tom Hufton top-scored with 53 as Blackheath were bowled out for 157. Chris Wilson (51), Martin Cantwell and Gavin Nesbitt gave Tilford an excellent start, but the visitors lost their way against Hufton (5-26 in 10 overs) and Neil Cozens.
The scores ended level in a dramatic finish and Tilford, nine wickets down, had to be content with two points.
Dogmersfield were all out for 158 (A Raza 44), with eight wickets falling to the Carrington family. Then Matt (53 not out) and Tyler Carrington (74 not out) fired Tongham to an eight-wicket victory in 29 overs.
Grayshott III were soon 15-3 against Bramley. However, solid contributions from the middle and lower order and 38 extras saw Grayshott post a challenging 172.
Good innings from opener Ali Holmes (53) and Ed Evans (44) put the visitors in a strong position. Skipper Neil Sampson (9-1-19-5) bowled his side back into contention with a superb spell and it all came down to the last over, with Grayshott needing one more wicket. Sampson’s final delivery popped up off the bat and a diving Moseley took the catch to complete a memorable win.
Jack Sutherland led a Peper Harow run feast against Frensham III. Coming in at number 5, Sutherland struck 16 fours and four sixes in an unbeaten 105, the visitors declaring at 256-9 after 44 overs. After a decent start, Frensham were bowled out for 96, with Mark Wilson taking 4-27 in 10 overs.
Another centurion was Wood Street opener Dan Saunders who batted throughout for 112 not out against Kingsley. But Wood Street just failed to dismiss the visitors. Paul Boxford (35) and Nick Randall (40) were the main stumbling blocks and Kingsley survived good bowling spells from James Grist (5-19 in 12 overs) and Jake Slyfield to end the day on 137-9.
