Rowledge have held their annual president’s day, which was dedicated by club president David Metcalfe to the long playing career of Chris Yates.
The tribute to Yates’ career was paid by David Lloyd, who played with Yates through five decades.
Yates’ career started in the 1970s when Rowledge played in the I’Anson League. In 1986 the club moved into the Hampshire Cricket League and latterly into the Southern Premier League. Apart from two years with Farnham, Yates played for Rowledge until 2024.
Yates played many games in the National Village Cup and was part of the team that were runners-up at Lord’s in 1985.
It is estimated that Yates scored around 10,000 runs and took 800 wickets for Rowledge.
The president’s day featured an internal under-nines game followed by a 15 overs-a-side match between the president’s XI and the under-19s. The match went to a super over which was won by the under-19s.
