Held each year to recognise the hard work of thousands of volunteers across Surrey, an OSCA nomination is an excellent way for a club, Surrey CCC and the Surrey Cricket Foundation to thank the volunteers.
The 2017 event took place at the Kia Oval on Sunday before the Surrey v Sussex and Surrey Stars v Yorkshire Diamonds double-header.
Father and son Robin and Simon Dibdin and Hallan ‘Hally’ Baldock were all up for awards and if they didn’t actually win an OSCA, their commitment to grassroots cricket was recognised at the high-profile awards.
Robin Dibdin, a former Frensham player, was for many years chairman of the Two Counties Youth League, forming a formidable double act with the late Sir Donald Limon as the competition expanded to a remarkable degree, eventually serving 40 clubs in four counties.
Simon Dibdin has served as Frensham CC’s youth secretary for nearly 30 years. Now chairman as well, he manages a database of some 270 youth members, organises coaching and overseas fixtures.
The somewhat younger Hally Baldock is a passionate coach across a spectrum of age groups and also runs senior sessions. He is highly qualified as a coach (ECB Level 2) and still finds time to captain Frensham’s Sunday XI.
