THURSLEY’S Derek Agge became, quite possibly, only the second I’Anson batsman to hit three successive hundreds after his assault on Grayshott III in Division Three.
Batting at number 6, he single-handedly carried his side to a defendable total. Thursley were struggling against Nick and Rory Fenton before Agge counter-attacked with a ferocious 101, hitting ten fours and five sixes.
Keith Tilson was next highest scorer with 19 and although Harrison Ward polished off the tail in quick time, Agge’s superb innings took Thursley to 171 in 37 overs.
Grayshott’s young side began well, Alistair Wheble leading the way with 31, but Aleem Fazal and that man Agge got amongst the wickets and the visitors’ ten men were bowled out for 97 in the 41st over.
Brook captain Tom Williams decided to bat first, so denying Tilford II any chance of promotion. Against a Tilford attack bolstered by first-teamers Huw Town-Jones and Nigel Martyn, Brook plundered 246-3 off 40 overs.
Tom Williams, who was dropped three times, led the way with a blistering 129 not out off 138 balls. Paul Challinor (39) shared in a stand of 102 and Robin Hudson (26 not out) also gave fine support.
Ed Katzler reduced Tilford to 26-3 before Nathan Sprittles (30) and Town-Jones (29) shared a good stand. But Challinor (4-35) plucked out the middle order and then it was over to Katzler who swept through the later batting to finish with 6-15 in 11.2 overs. Tilford were all out for 114.
Wood Street (95-7) drew with Dogmersfield II (138).
Bramley v Blackheath II – cancelled.
Unless another batsman has scored three consecutive hundreds since 2001, when Graham Collyer compiled records for the I’Anson’s centenary history, Derek Agge is only the second player to perform that feat. The records reveal that A H Hartwright of Lynchmere CC scored three successive centuries in 1907. Agge thus has a powerful motivation when Thursley play their last game at Kingsley this Saturday.
