BLACKHEATH II and Grayshott III set the pace at the top of I’Anson Division Three after good wins last Saturday. Thursley, despite a century from the evergreen Keith Tilson, were denied victory by Frensham III.

Kingsley managed a decent total of 147-7 against very tight Blackheath II bowling. As usual, Kingsley relied heavily on old stagers Wayne Moulds (40) and Nick Randall (49).

But the home side were made to rue some dropped catches when Blackheath replied. Tom Melhuish made a fine 62 and an unbeaten 38 from Matt Burch completed a comfortable six-wicket win.

Tongham, after last week’s fine win over Brook, were dismissed for 62 by Grayshott III at Broxhead. The visitors batted 33 overs, but Grayshott bowlers Julian Oosthuizen, Neil Sampson, Nick Ryall and Toby Joyce never relaxed their grip.

Grayshott lost three wickets cheaply in reply before Rob Ward and Cameron Clarke (27 not out) made sure of the eight points.

Keith Tilson has lost none of his appetitive for the game and youngsters could learn from his application as the veteran opener manoeuvred the ball around to make 111 not out. Derek Agge contributed 32 not out and Thursley declared at 220-4.

John Turnbull (69) led a solid reply by Frensham III. The accuracy of Aleem Fazal and Agge put them behind the clock, but they gained a comfortable draw on 179-7

Dogmersfield II elected to bowl and John Hunt and Martin Cantwell got Tilford II off to a bright start with 40 off the first nine overs before canny leg-spinner Abid came on and took 5-18 in 12.2 overs. Gavin Nesbitt punished anything loose before being caught on the boundary for 45 and Tilford were all out for 140.

The visitors also began briskly, scoring 40 in the first eight overs. Khan and Ashok batted well, but then 15-year-old Jack Cantwell began to take wickets. At 124-4 with seven overs left, Dogmersfield should have won, but the introduction of Rick Austin (3-13) and the return of young Cantwell signalled a remarkable collapse and five wickets fell for no runs. Cantwell ending the game with a superb return catch and league best figures of 6-29 off 13.2 overs as Tilford won by nine runs in front of a boisterous, partisan Barley Mow crowd.

Put in to bat at Brook’s pleasant ground, Peper Harow were reduced to 12-2 by Ed Katzler (5-58), but then recovered superbly as Steve Bradley (54) and Dan Heath (71) added 136.

Brook were set 190 to win in 42 overs and made the task look easy, thanks to a fast 59 from skipper Tom Williams and an unbroken stand between Paul Challinor (53 not out) and Robin Hudson (54 not out). Brook got home in 30 overs.

Bramley came within one wicket of victory at Wood Street. Ali Holmes top-scored with 47 as Bramley totalled 173 all out. Jake Slyfield took 4-28 in 11 overs.

The visitors were given a good start by Dan Saunders (46) and James Cagney (28), but then lost their way against Andy Robertson (4-46) and only just avoided defeat at 132-9.
