SIX games, six wins for Pirbright who are looking for an immediate return to the I’Anson’s top flight after last season’s relegation.
Harting contained them to 50-1 from 14 overs at their West Sussex ground, but again Robbie Jones changed all that, hitting an explosive 47 as the score accelerated to 109 in the next ten overs. Harting fought back with some fine bowling from Andy and Jake Wadey, but Awais Khan held firm with a patient 51 and the big-hitting Brett Flanegan helped Pirbright to 191-8 declared after 44 overs.
Harting immediately lost key batsman Rob Norris – adjudged lbw – and were in deep trouble at 13-5 as Pirbright supported their bowlers with excellent fielding. However, the Wadeys dug deep and Harting clawed their way to 55-7 after 37 overs. The game looked set for a draw, but Puneet Saraswat returned to spark a collapse and the last three wickets fell for no further runs as the leg-spinner returned outstanding figures of 9.4-6-4-4.
Grayshott II, opting to bat first against The Bourne, made good use of a decent surface. Half-centuries from young Will Kriehn and two old stagers, Simon Whitley and Richard Baker, enabled the home side to declare at a formidable 233-6 from 43 overs.
Young speedsters Kiaran Wells and Alex Marden soon had The Bourne in trouble at 22-4. However, several catches went down and Dhilip Lessly (22 not out) and Dave Clarke shared a stubborn eighth-wicket partnership before Wells returned to snap up the last three wickets. The 17-year-old, bowling with pace and bounce, took 6 for 27 off 11 overs, while Nick Ryall held four catches on his keeping debut.
Fernhurst, put in by Frensham II, found the bowling difficult to get away early on. However, Dan Boutell played a vital innings of 60 and with the other batsmen chipping in around him, the home side were able to declare on 227-7 off 45 overs. Hally Baldock took 4-51.
Frensham always went for the runs and their positive approach was almost rewarded as Roger Johnston (49), Ryan Sherman (35) and James Frost (47) brought the target in sight. The game went right down to the last two balls, but the bowling of Tristan Rissik and Ashley Holloway eventually gave Fernhurst the edge as Frensham closed on 220-9, eight runs from victory.
Hindhead inserted Headley II and the returning Stuart Woods picked up two early wickets. This brought together Ashley Cook and Blake Hatt in a good partnership. Skipper Hatt went for a well-made 47, while Cook was finally dismissed for a gritty 43 in 45 overs, Headley being dismissed for 166.
Hindhead, after a decent start, ran into trouble against slow left-armer Chris Joyce (3-25). Then Ali McGregor joined opener Darren Carter in a fine stand, taking the score to 120-3 before Carter departed for 55. Hindhead needed a further 47 from eight overs and Woods and McGregor made light work of the task. McGregor finished the game with two big sixes to finish 57 not out off 52 balls.
Badshot Lea struggled against the Lurgashall attack, but opener Hassan Raza held things together with a determined 76 and helped his side to a respectable 152 all out. Aaron Evans, Nathan Kemp and Darren Hodd shared the wickets.
Lurgashall lost Drew Clark cheaply, but that proved to be the home side’s only success as Ollie Pearce (81 not out) joined skipper Aaron Carter (56 not out) in a very aggressive partnership. Lurgashall raced to victory in just 21 overs.
Elstead consolidated second place in the table with a good win at Shalford. Electing to bat, Elstead scored a fast rate, Guy Drayton leading the way with 67, well supported by Lewis Sheppard and skipper Faz Syed. Elstead were all out for 209 after just 37 overs.
After a bad start, Shalford were put on course by James Crutcher and Kevin Huttly, top scorer with 44. Skipper Dave Shilcock also batted well, but Elstead chipped away at the batting, Syed taking 3-34, and Shalford subsided to 157 all out.
