SOUTHPORT 1, ALDERSHOT TOWN 3
IT may not be the most orthodox blueprint for success, but from the depths of a debilitating injury crisis, Aldershot have rescued some of the most impressive performances of manager Andy Scott's tenure.
Southport boss Gary Brabin had not lost in the 10 games since he took charge, but the Shots – forced to employ Jaydon Gibbs as their sixth-choice left-back after Naby Diallo became the latest player to succumb to its curse – dominated much of the game and eventually cruised to victory on Tuesday night.
While the hosts failed to muster anything approaching a grandstand finish, Aldershot simply got stronger and could have easily doubled their score.
"We were different class," said Scott.
