MEMBERS of Haslemere Border Athletics Club took part in a club favourite on Sunday - the Farnborough half-marathon.
Now in its third year, the race is one of the fastest, flattest routes in the South. Starting and finishing under Farnborough’s famous airship hangar, the race saw Border’s Jon Fair come in as eighth man in a fantastic one hour 18 minutes 52 seconds. Tom Millns was second man in for the club in 1.25.52, with Helen Barran coming in as first Haslemere lady in a 1.26.46.
Sarah Smith, the second Haslemere Border lady home, completed the route in 1.39.58, Andy Wareham completed the course in 1.42.29, Dominic Perkins was close behind in 1.42.40, Tom Bampton finished in 1.43.43, Paul Fleming completed the course in 1.45.11 and Clair Wadley finished in 1.52.
Cairon Peason finished in 1.56.29, with Lauren Blatherwick finishing the half-marathon course in a personal best time of 2.03.53. Andy Wise finished in 2.15.02, with Karen Sinclair completing the team effort in 2.24.04.
The previous weekend saw the Haslemere Border team racing in the penultimate Southern Cross Country League event. It was hosted by Alton Runners at the new Chawton House venue.
With 33 members representing the club, the team finished third overall, which has elevated them to second place in the league, with all runners enjoying the new route.
The final event is the team’s home event on February 24. The Polecat Valley race will be a tense, closely run race between the Borders and current top spot clubs from Basingstoke and Mid Hants AC, with team Borders hoping the home advantage will give them the edge to win and retain the league championship.
