FARNHAM Knights 8, London Blitz 64 (British American Football Premier Div). The under-strength Knights fought all the way to the final whistle, but could not avoid being ‘blitzed’ by their powerful opponents.
The Farnham side trailed 35-0 before young star Aaron Sekwalor caught Ally Reid’s short pass and raced 64 yards to score. Nick Roope ran in the two-point conversion, but that was as good as it got for Knights. The London side, after leading 43-8 at half-time, stretched the final margin to 64-8 during a second half that was shortened by the running clock rule that kicks in when a team trails by 35 points or more.
Knights coach Steve Rains said: “British football is dominated by two teams at the moment – London Warriors and London Blitz – and we have had to play them back-to-back after losing both our quarterbacks.”
Farnham now have a run of fixtures against teams nearer their standard, so there is still much to play for. They need to bounce back when they visit Bristol for their next game.
