ARE YOU missing taking part in competitive sport? Alex Warren may have the answer...
He started the Farnham Online Chess Club on March 15 when members were not permitted to meet.
He said: “In the space of two weeks, we have grown to 168 members and held four online chess tournaments.
“We have grandmasters playing as well as complete beginners.
“Everyone is welcome. We ran a tournament this week with 60 competitors which was won by local grandmaster the Ginger GM, Simon Williams. He is from The Sands and a bit of a cult hero.
“The club can be found on chess.com and people would need to create an account – it is free – and then search for Farnham Online Chess Club.
“We think we may well already be the largest online chess club in the UK but we would really like to have a number of beginners and juniors joining our club.
“Hopefully if they get the buzz they can come and join us physically when we are able to meet up!
“This has definitely been a case of making a positive out of negative and we think chess can be great for people’s mental health during this period.”
