ALDERSHOT Town manager Gary Waddock has released three players from his first-team squad. Josh Wakefield and Iffy Allen will leave the club at the end of their contracts in early January, while Charlie Walker leaves by mutual consent in a quest to gain regular first-team football.
In 18 months with the Shots, Walker made 60 appearances, including 39 starts, and scored 17 goals. He was last season’s top scorer with 14 goals, but has made just four starts in 2016-17 after suffering ankle ligament damage in pre-season.
Aldershot have extended Dion Conroy’s loan from Chelsea until the end of the season. Having joined the club in August, initially until January, he has made 13 appearances in both central midfield and at centre-back.
Conroy, who has just turned 21, will now be available for the final 20 National League games of the season.
Aldershot assistant manager James Rowe has signed a long-term extension to his contract. The 33-year-old, who recently graduated from Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Institute with a Master in Coaching degree, was appointed assistant to Gary Waddock in June.
Previously assistant Academy director with West Ham, the UEFA A-Licence-qualified coach has also worked in the Birmingham City Academy and as a coaching advisor to the Premier League for whom he provided technical reports on Academy teams across England and Europe.
