ALRESFORD TN 4, BROCKENHURST 2
ALRESFORD, undefeated in the Sydenhams Premier League since October 31, continued their superb run with an emphatic win against Brockenhurst.
The New Forest side started the day five points above Alresford in the Premier Division table, but the Magpies came from behind to win convincingly in the end.
It was their eighth win in 11 matches – the other three were drawn – and Alresford are now eighth in the table, with games in hand on all the teams above them.
Mitch Speechley-Price scored the first of his two goals to put Brockenhurst ahead after 20 minutes, but the home side quickly turned the tables and strikes from Sam Burt and Chris Mason gave them a 2-1 advantage at the interval.
With 77 minutes gone, Steve Hall headed Alresford into a 3-1 lead, but Brockenhurst were not finished and Speechley-Price’s second goal on 82 minutes set up an exciting finish.
Just two minutes later, however, Tom Sands clinched the points with a fierce drive.
Goalkeeper Dan Kempson was again excellent for Alresford in this hard-fought game. The Magpies face another tough examination this Saturday when third-placed Portland visit Arlesbury Park.
* Alresford’s North Hants Senior Cup semi-final at Fleet Town was postponed on Tuesday. Next Tuesday (Jan 24), Alresford are scheduled to visit Sholing in the Southampton Senior Cup quarter-finals.
