ALTON TN 2,
NEW MILTON 0
AFTER two heavy defeats on the road, Alton clicked back into gear on the fast 3G surface at Anstey Park and recorded a routine victory over New Milton.
The Brewers conceded ten goals when losing to Christchurch in the league and then Team Solent in the Wessex League Cup. Luke Perkins missed both those games, but Alton’s most potent attacking weapon was back on Saturday and scored both goals in a dominant display against the New Forest side.
Alton were on top for pretty much the whole of the game and Mo Nyamunga had one of his quietest afternoons in the home goal.
New Milton defended valiantly, but could not prevent Alton taking two of their several chances.
Danny Turner and Perkins have struck up a good partnership in attack and after another slick combination, Perkins was taken out by the last defender who was lucky not to be sent off.
Perkins got up to score from the spot and proceeded to miss other openings, mostly created by his extra pace.
Just before half-time, however, a much more difficult chance fell to Perkins and, typically, he took it, finding the bottom corner with a sweet left-foot shot.
Alton were content to just keep the ball in the second half and, although there were no further goals, they strolled through the rest of the game, with New Milton never threatening to reduce the deficit.
Alton visit Fleet Spurs this Saturday, hoping to improve their dismal away record. They have won just once on their travels this season.
Alton: Nyamunga; Phillips, Wright, Shuttleworth, Adkins; Clarke, Fox (Hayes), Hunter (Gray), Perkins, Greenaway (Peck); Turner. Subs (not used): Allaway, Taylor.
