Ash United 0, Farnham Town 3

TWO goals from Kylo Atkinson and a third from Edward Scurfield ensured Farnham Town ended the first half of their frustrating, stop-start season on a high.

Town, who completed 90 minutes in the league for the first time since November 17, were always in control against their near neighbours and gave boss Luke Turkington plenty to smile about as they prepare to mount a promotion push in the new year.

“It’s nice to go away and get three points,” he said.

“And, in all honesty, it was a comfortable win.

“We could have been rusty having not had a game for two weeks but the boys were really up for it. It’s great to get a game under our belts again and performance-wise it was spot on.

“Hopefully now we can roll into 2019 and pick up more wins and move up the table.”

Atkinson opened the scoring on the half-hour mark before he doubled Town’s lead on the stroke of half-time.

Scurfield then put the result beyond amy doubt when he converted a penalty on 58 minutes, sending the ball coolly into the bottom right-hand corner despite the goalkeeper going the right way.

And the win, and the manner in which it was achieved, looks hugely significant as Town look to return to the Premier Division next season.

After a wretched run of weather-related postponements, Farnham Town now lie fifth – 10 points behind leaders Frimley Green – but with plenty of games in hand on the teams above them.

“We’re not so far away,” said Turkington.

“The teams above us have points on the table but we have a large squad and a few more wins will see us climb up the table.

“I was chatting with my assistant earlier in the season and said if we could be in the top five by the turn of the year then we would be in a position to challenge for promotion.

“With the games we have got coming up, and if the weather holds and lets us play, we should be able to put a bit of pressure on the top four.”

On Saturday, Farnham Town return to the Memorial Ground, which has been fit to host only one cup game since early November, to face lowly Kensington Borough in Division One of the Combined Counties League (kick-off 3pm).
