League leaders Badshot Lea are back on the road to Wembley on Saturday.
They host Corinthian in the preliminary round of the FA Cup at 3pm having disposed of East Preston in the extra preliminary round, winning a Sussex replay 2-0 after being held 3-3 at home.
Following a 6-1 home thrashing of Horley Town and a 7-0 win at Molesey, the Baggies were made to work for the third successive victory that put them top of the embryonic Combined Counties Premier Division South table.
On Tuesday they entertained Camberley Town, who had just lost 7-0 at Raynes Park Vale, and had to battle through a defensive web.
Camberley set up to frustrate the Baggies and they never really got going, relying on a late Dean Rule penalty to seal the points.
Co-manager Gavin Smith said: “We knew it would be a frustrating night.
“We played really, really well last Saturday – probably the best we have played – and they were beaten 7-0, and they were always going to set up to make sure they didn’t get beaten like that again. They deserved it – they worked hard.
“We seemed to run out of ideas. I think if we had scored early it might have made a difference but their keeper made a couple of very good saves.
“It was a frustrating night – at half time we talked about playing more quickly to get down the sides more. We were trying to make something happen and putting balls into the box when we shouldn’t.
“I’ve played against sides who set up defensively and it can be frustrating – you need space to play. But we got there in the end.
“We needed that – we didn’t look like we going to score and then you’ve always got that worry we’d concede. Any club can score – it takes only a deflection or a mistake and it’s a goal.
“We are delighted to get the points but we are always looking for a bit more. We have to be on our game every week – it’s a very good league and we will be playing some very good sides.
“Other clubs think we are going to be up there at the end of the season and that brings a bit of pressure, but we believe in the squad we have.”
