COLLIERS WOOD 2, BADSHOT LEA 1

MICHAEL Charles’ new-look Badshot Lea side left themselves too much to do after conceding twice in the last 15 minutes of the first half at mid-table Colliers Wood on Saturday.

The Baggies made a positive start in this Combined Counties Premier League match and Jake Hill was forced to head a dangerous Matt Stamp cross behind for a corner. And from the resulting kick, Stamp headed narrowly wide.

Later, Wester Young made a fine save low to his left from a Brad Smith free-kick.

However, a fine team goal put Wood in front after 32 minutes. Tyrone Newton, Anis Nuur and Sanchez Benali delivered the ball to Hussein Mohammed whose deflected shot gave keeper Lee Allen no chance.

The goal seemed to settle the home side and with the outstanding Benali pulling the strings in midfield, a second goal followed eight minutes later.

Benali was again involved in the move before Theo Woodhouse blasted the ball home.

The Stamp-Smith attack partnership posed problems for the Wood defence in the second half, but a deserved goal came too late to save the Baggies.

With six minutes remaining, Smith was hauled down by Dale Marvell and got up to put the penalty away in style.

A nervy Colliers Wood saw out the remaining time, but Badshot Lea can take heart from their performance.

BADSHOT LEA 3, SPELTHORNE SPORTS 2

BADSHOT LEA lifted themselves off the bottom of the table with a much-needed win over Spelthorne Sports on Tuesday. Goals from Jordan Stepney and Jubril Borishade gave Lea a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time, but the visitors fought back to draw level.

The game ended happily for Michael Charles’ side when debutant Callum Sexton scored a last-minute winner.

The Baggies line-up included Luke Whiddett, who has rejoined his former club from Farnham Town.

Badshot Lea now gear themselves up for two meetings with Farnham in the space of four days. The sides meet in the league at the Memorial Ground this Saturday. On Tuesday, it’s the Baggies’ turn to host Farnham, this time in a Surrey Senior Cup second-round tie (ko 7.30pm at Ash United FC).
