ALDERSHOT Town boss Gary Waddock has left the troubled National League club.
Waddock’s contract was terminated by mutual consent just weeks after the Shots were relegated to National League South following a dismal season which left them three from bottom of the National League.
Plagued by injuries and a lack of funds, Waddock’s second spell in charge of the Shots was effectively doomed when they embarked on an horrendous 18-game winless streak from November 3 to February 23.
Ironically, the Shots, who finished one place below the drop zone despite winning their final two games of the season, could yet win a relegation reprieve because of the dire situation that Gateshead find themselves in.
The Heed, who are in financial dire straits and currently have no members of staff after they were all relieved of their duties, face the very real prospect of being demoted from the league, and the likelihood of a fan-run breakaway club being formed and beginning life in step seven of the non-league pyramid has become much more of a reality.
Waddock, 57, who steered the Shots back into the Football League in 2008 during his first spell at the EBB Stadium, also took his side into the National League play-offs in two consecutive seasons after being appointed for a second time in May 2016.
Shots chairman Shahid Azeem said: "Gary has delivered in not only winning the National League in 2008, but in his last three years he has delivered two play-offs and leaves us with sincere appreciation. We wish him all the best for the future.
"On a personal note, Gary, along with his family, have become friends and will always be welcome at the club."
