HEADLEY, Liphook and Four Marks all bowed out of the Puma Hampshire Premier League Cup at the second-round stage, but Liss Athletic, riding high in the Senior Division, came through with a 4-2 win at league leaders Otterbourne.

The home side led twice with goals from Dan Strange, but Liss, after drawing level through Sam Godfrey and then an own goal, stunned Otterbourne with two strikes in the space of two minutes. Dan Sharpe made it 3-2 on 76 minutes and, almost immediately, a Matt Andrews goal clinched victory for Liss.

Hamble Club needed extra time to win 2-1 at Liphook. After a goalless first 90 minutes, Hamble took control with goals from Shane Flooks and Marc-Juan Pascual. Sam Gray’s reply came too late to save Liphook.

Richard McCann pulled one back for Headley after Infinity had taken an early 2-0 lead through Steve Allen and Ryan Elliott. However, Allen scored again late in the game and Headley were out, beaten 3-1.

Division One side Four Marks came close to an upset after holding Bush Hill to 6-6 after normal time, only to finally lose 9-6 after extra time in a remarkable cup-tie.

Despite the defeat, it was a day to remember for Steve Brown who scored all six of Four Marks’ goals, all in the second half.

Bush Hill seemed to have victory in the bag when they led 4-0 at the interval, but former Alton Town striker Brown converted a penalty after being fouled and then produced a lethal display of clinical finishing, scoring five more times.

Leading 6-4 late on, Bush Hill were almost there, but Brown struck twice in the last nine minutes to force extra time.

The home side finally made sure in the extra 30 minutes, although they were assisted by an own goal from unlucky keeper Joe Brock. Tom Mason scored four of Bush Hill’s nine goals.

Hitman Brown now has 22 goals for the season.
