FARNHAM TN 1, AFC HAYES 0
FARNHAM moved closer to their target of 60 points for the season with this deserved win.
The only goal came midway through the first half and Stan Staines finished well from a cross by Jack Dillon.
Thereafter, Farnham seemed to have other things on their mind, with two cup finals looming fast, and the rest of the game was uneventful, although Town seldom looked like surrendering their advantage.
“We still want to finish in the top ten and that can be achieved before the cup finals,” said manager Paul Tanner.
But Farnham dropped points on Tuesday in their last home game of the season, losing 3-2 to top-five side Knaphill.
A Jimmy Norman free-kick gave in-form Knaphill an early lead and two goals from Charlie Postance gave the visitors a 3-1 advantage in the second half, Stan Staines having pulled one back for Farnham.
Matt Glass scored on 82 minutes to make it interesting, but Knaphill clung onto their lead.
This leaves Farnham three away matches in five days to make a push into the higher reaches of the table. They were at Chessington on Thursday this week and travel to Windsor on Saturday. Their last match is at Westfield on Bank Holiday Monday.
* Farnham are seeing rather a lot of Camberley in cup matches in the closing stages of the season. Having lost 2-0 to the Krooners in their Southern Combination Cup semi-final last Thursday, Farnham will again face Camberley in the Premier Challenge Cup final at Windsor FC’s Stag Meadow ground on Saturday, May 7 (ko 3pm).
Camberley, currently third in the league and well placed to be runners-up behind champions Hartley Wintney, could also be Farnham’s opponents in the Aldershot Senior Cup final on Wednesday, May 11 at Aldershot Town’s EBB Stadium (ko 7.45pm). Fleet Town and Camberley were playing their delayed semi-final this week.
* Badshot Lea twice led at Westfield, but had to settle for a 2-2 draw. Mason Saunders (4mins) and Ryan Stephens (70) gave the Baggies hope of a much-needed win, but goals from Reid and and Clark salvaged a point for mid-table Westfield.
