FARNHAM TOWN 0, HANWORTH VILLA 0

FARNHAM, after the disappointment of midweek defeat to Camberley in their Aldershot Senior Cup quarter-final, continued their strong Combined Counties League form on Saturday with a valuable point against high-riding Hanworth Villa.

For a scoreless draw, it was an entertaining game at the Memorial Ground, with both sides having decent chances to break the deadlock.

Chris Poole set the mood for Farnham by hassling Hanworth’s defenders throughout, while holding midfielders Jack Cox and Darren Wilson gave Steve Ramsden license to surge forward regularly.

Jack Dillon was out injured, so Ashley Peck came in to play on the right and with Elliott Cardona patrolling on the left, Farnham had plenty of width.

Hanworth, missing several regulars, were allowed few opening by the solid back line of Max Meaton, Doug Ford, George Spiers and Ben Williams, and Richard Ossai had a quiet afternoon in goal.

Farnham’s best chances fell to Poole, Cardona and Wilson, but poor finishing and good goalkeeping kept the scoresheet blank.

“We played a competitive and controlled game and had more clear-cut chances, so I was disappointed not to have got three points against a good side,” said Town manager Paul Tanner.

“I feel we need one more win to secure our place in the Premier League, but with nine games left, we should be trying to hit 50 points at least.”

Farnham have a tough game at Walton & Hersham this Saturday.
