COLLIERS WOOD 2, FARNHAM TN 2

FARNHAM picked up another useful point from their second tough Combined Counties League fixture in the space of three days.

They went two goals down at Colliers Wood, but Matt Glass headed Town back into contention just before half-time and Steve Ramsden equalised deep into injury time.

Colliers Wood went ahead on 17 minutes. A fine ball from Jay Burke on the left put Dan Harding away and he cut into the area before beating Richard Ossai at the near post.

Burke was then denied by Ossai, whose last appearance at Wibbandune earned him a 10 out of 10 rating for his heroics. He was Town’s hero again here with a string of excellent stops.

Wood, with five teenagers in the starting eleven, were gaining in confidence and took a firm grip on the game when they extended their lead on 39 minutes. The always tricky Mario Embalo twisted and turned his way into space before shooting low past Ossai into the far corner

But Glass rallied Farnham with his superb header from a Max Meaton cross and the visitors almost drew level before the break when James Thomas hit the upright and Glass put the rebound over the bar.

Manager Paul Tanner switched to a 4-2-4 formation in the second half and this bold move paid off as the home side came under increasing pressure.

The tackles were flying in, though, and Farnham seemed to have handed the game to Colliers Wood when they conceded a penalty for a foul on Anis Nuur. However, Ossai pulled off a vital save from Embalo’s rather tame spot kick and Town continued to chase the equaliser.

Colliers keeper Wester Young was also in fine form and the equaliser was proving elusive for Farnham.

But it finally came in the 94th minute. With Farnham’s four front-runners all squeezing the Colliers defence, the ball broke to Thomas who lifted it over the back four for Tom Smith to challenge keeper Young.

The Farnham player just got his toe to the ball, allowing Ramsden to tap home and round off a gutsy fightback.

Farnham Tn 1, Camberley Tn 1. Farnham had a game plan for the midweek match against a powerful Camberley side. Paul Tanner set up his side in a different way to resist the Krooners’ attacking prowess and the home side defended with great discipline.

At the other end, Matt Glass missed two great chances to put Farnham in front. It remained goalless at half-time, but Farnham had the edge.

It was rather different in the second half as Camberley really pushed hard, restricting their opponents to occasional counter-attacks.

Yet it was Farnham who snatched the lead in the 71st minute. Jack Dillon supplied a good cross and Matt Graham stole in to score at the back post.

But having scored that precious goal, Farnham switched off and, six minutes later, Camberley were level as Jamie Hoppitt exploited gaps in defence to score a well-taken goal.

Farnham closed ranks in defence and soaked up relentless pressure to make sure of a hard-earned point.
