Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson praised his side’s professional performance after they swept aside Sheerwater 5-0 in the Combined Counties Premier Division South on Saturday afternoon.
Town have won five out of five in the league to sit at the top of the Combined Counties Premier Division South table – and have won nine out of nine in all competitions.
The result extended the club’s unbeaten away run in the league to 15 games.
Farnham broke the deadlock in the 15th minute through Harry Cooksley’s penalty after Owen Dean was fouled in the box.
Charlie Postance made it 2-0 on 18 minutes with a superb header into the top corner.
Cooksley made it 3-0 in the 57th minute with a low driven effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Shamal Edwards scored the fourth on 65 minutes when he thumped home from close range, and Edwards completed the scoring in the 90th minute when he fired his finish into the bottom corner.
“It’s another win ticked off and we had chances to score more than five,” said Johnson.
“It was a hot day on a 3G pitch – which makes it even hotter – but we managed that side of it well.
“Harry took penalties at Hartley Wintney – he’s a good penalty taker. Charlie got his goal and Shamal got two – we’ve rotated our options at the top end of the pitch but the boys keep on delivering.”
Saturday’s win followed an impressive 2-1 victory at Flackwell Heath last Wednesday night (September 6) in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.
Town fell behind for the first time this season through Jack Shakespeare’s goal in the 34th minute, but the response was swift and immediate.
Owen Dean equalised on 37 minutes with a well-taken strike, and Shamal Edwards scored the winner in the 45th minute to seal Town’s place in the second qualifying round.
“We had to show another side to ourselves as it was the first time we’ve gone behind this season,” said Johnson.
“It was a good test of our character and we got ourselves straight back in the game and then got the winner.
“We’re in a good place at the minute – the club is a really good place to be and we want to keep the momentum going.”
Farnham’s reward for beating Flackwell Heath is a home tie against Southern League Premier Division South leaders Chesham United on Saturday (3pm).
