Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson demanded better from his side after they beat Sheerwater 5-3 in the Combined Counties Premier Division South on Saturday.

Goals from Mark Waters, Charlie Postance, Adam Liddle, Dean Rule and Shamal Edwards gave the league champions the three points in front of a crowd of 513 at The Memorial Ground.

Town were 5-1 up but conceded two late goals to make the final scoreline closer than it could have been.

“It was one we should have enjoyed and it should have been a cricket score but we were poor in the second half,” said Johnson. “The subs were dreadful. Dean Rule is the only one that comes out with any credit and they've been told off.

“We can't work on too much because we're playing Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday now, but there's going to be a wake up call for some of them because while they've done the job and they've been excellent they're playing for next year and that wasn't good enough. They've still got eight games to go – there's no excuses in terms of tiredness because it's the third game in three weeks. In ten days' time they'll have an excuse to be tired, but they've got to liven up.

“The second half was so sloppy in front of goal. Credit to their keeper – he's pulled off some great saves – but the manner and the way we went about the second half was poor. We've set our standards from day one and that's the first time we've switched off a little bit. Some say they're due that but it shouldn't have happened.

“We should have scored before we did but Mark showed good instinct to tap that one in. Charlie took his goal well, but he should have had a hat-trick in the first half. Adam Liddle looked back to where he was a little while ago – he was sharp and if we left him on he would have got a few. Dean was a threat again. The boys in front of him didn't do him justice because he could have had some assists."
