Farnham Town have confirmed the signing of midfielder Mat Mackenzie from fellow Southern League Premier South side Hanwell Town for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old broke through at Redhill in the Combined Counties Premier South before joining South Park in the Isthmian South Central in February 2022 and joining Hanwell in the summer of 2022.
Farnham manager Paul Johnson said: “Once promotion was confirmed, we started drawing up a list of summer targets and Mat was right at the top of that list.
“He’s a player we’ve been tracking for a long time and have always liked the look of.
“With his age and his situation at Hanwell, it wasn’t as straightforward a deal to make as some of our other signings this summer, but credit to everyone involved with both clubs to find a solution.
“He’s got a big frame, he’s athletic, and he’s excellent on the ball.
“He’s going to add something different to our midfield options and I’m looking forward to working with Mat.”
Farnham chairman Harry Hugo added: “This was an interesting deal for us to work on.
“Even though he was a ‘free agent’, Hanwell were due compensation for their role in his development which took some time to agree on but I’m pleased we got there – and thanks to everyone at Hanwell for working with us on that.
“Mat was one of the first players Paul singled out to us as someone he was very keen to bring in this summer.
“He’s young, but he’s got good experience of the level having already racked up well over 100 appearances during his three years with Hanwell.
“From speaking to Mat, he’s a very grounded individual and loves his football.
“He’s going to be a huge asset for us next season and hopefully beyond.
“I’m delighted to welcome him to the Farnham Town family.”
