FORMER England and Liverpool goalkeeper David James showed his support for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham by taking part in their charity football match.
The game was organised by Bridges Estate Agents, an official partner of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care. Bridges challenged the charity to a fund-raising game and it was played at Aldershot Town’s EBB Stadium. Phyllis Tuckwell fielded a team of staff and supporters.
“Every member of our team had a link with Phyllis Tuckwell,” said Georgi Robinson-Welch of PTHC. “Some had relatives who were cared for by our staff and volunteers. Others work at Phyllis Tuckwell, or have family members who work there.”
A good many fans came to cheer the teams on and take the opportunity to meet David James, who played for Phyllis Tuckwell. The event proved a great success and over £3,000 was raised on the night.
After the match, David James presented medals to all the players.
“We would like to thank Bridges and Aldershot Town FC for organising this match, which has brought local people together to have fun while raising money to help fund our vital hospice care,” said Georgi Robinson-Welch. “Special thanks go to David James for giving up his time to support the event, to Hambledon FC who provided the kit, and to all those who came along to support the teams.”
Phyllis Tuckwell won the game 3-2 and Bridges have already asked for a rematch.
