THIS result pushed Petersfield ever closer to the drop in the Evo-Stik Southern League Div I Central, while easing Aylesbury’s own relegation worries.

All the early pressure came from the Moles and Petersfield scrambled two shots off the line before Aylesbury scored the only goal of the game, albeit a very soft one, after 17 minutes.

From the edge of the area, Ruddock Yala hit a shot that took a big deflection and bobbled past wrong-footed keeper Matt Collins into the net.

Petersfield then put up some spirited defence, although Aylesbury had ample chances to put the game to bed.

The Rams’ best effort to equalise came from a free-kick on 70 minutes. Ryan Woodford curled the ball past the wall, but James Weatherill reacted well to push the shot round the post.

Petersfield soldier on with a trip to Barton Rovers this Saturday and then a home match with Hanwell Town on Tuesday.

Petersfield might be going down, but they have a cup final to look forward to after trouncing Moneyfields in the delayed Portsmouth Senior Cup semi-final at a wet Love Lane on Tuesday night.

Ryan Woodford scored a brace of goals and one apiece for Adam Cripps and Max Smith saw the Rams through in convincing style.

The prestigious final will be played at Fratton Park and Petersfield will meet Havant & Waterlooville Hawks, who thrashed AFC Portchester 5-0 in the other semi-final.
