ENTERPRISING Aldershot Town are appealing to fans to ‘pay what you want’ when the Shots host Hartlepool United at the EBB Stadium on October 12.
The club is running the initiative to mark Non-League Day – held each year to coincide with football’s international break and the lull in the Premier League programme – and is asking fans who book tickets up to the Friday before the game to pay anywhere between £2 and £30 to see Danny Searle’s men in Vanarama National League action.
Tickets can be booked and paid for online at www.theshots.co.uk, or by telephone or in person at the club shop at the EBB Stadium – up to and including Friday, October 11.
Tickets for the game will still be available to buy on the day but won’t be part of the promotion, instead normal matchday ticket prices will apply.
Mark Butler, Aldershot Town’s commercial manager, said: “A lot of our activities at the club are aimed at having a commercial result, but this is slightly different, we want to offer fans a one-off deal to see professional football in the National League.
“The board have been very brave to embrace the scheme as they may not get the same income that they would from a normal game, but it’s all about trying to do something for the community.”
And Mr Butler added: “We hope it’s going to go well and bes successful and we have already had some wonderful people paying the £30, which is well above the price of a regular ticket.”
