HEREFORD 3, CAMBERLEY TN 2, aet
CAMBERLEY Town have flown the flag for the Combined Counties League in this season’s FA Vase, but their superb run was finally ended by Hereford.
Playing at Hereford’s famous Edgar Street ground, the Krooners led twice in the quarter-final. Former Farnham Town striker Matt Bunyan – a PE teacher at Salesians College – put Camberley in front, a lead they maintained until the 66th minute when Mike Symons converted a penalty awarded for handball.
When Bunyan scored his second goal to make it 2-1, Camberley were only 12 minutes away from a famous victory.
But Mustapha Bundu scored a late equaliser for Hereford and the tie went into extra time.
With the final seconds ticking away, it was agony for Camberley as John Mills got the winner to send the Midland League side through to the semi-finals and a trip to Steve Claridge’s Salisbury on March 19.
Camberley played with effectively ten men throughout extra time due to an injury, having already used their three substitutes.
