AN early goal from in-form striker Tom Cursons was enough to book Badshot Lea’s place in the second round of the FA Vase today.
Cursons struck on seven minutes to earn the Baggies a 1-0 win at Western League Premier Division side Westbury United, who had knocked out Alton Town in the previous round.
Lea will find out their next opponents when the second round draw is made on Monday as they take a step closer to Wembley.
In the Combined Counties League, Farnham Town moved up to second place in Division One with a hard-fought 2-0 win over a decent Dorking Wanderers Reserves side at a soggy Memorial Ground.
Goals in each half from Charlie Oakley and substitute Gavin Brainch saw Town leapfrog Sandhurst into second spot after home goalkeeper Dease Kerrison had superbly saved an early penalty.
The win stretched Town’s unbeaten run to five games in all competitions and saw boss Luke Turkington’s stingy side keep a fourth consecutive clean sheet.
In the Sydenhams Wessex League, Alton Town missed the chance to go top of Division One as they lost 3-2 at home to Andover New Street at The Enclosure.
A Phil Moore penalty and a goal from George Bowerman failed to prevent the Brewers slipping to a second deafeat in four days after losing at Whitchurch on Wednesday night.
Two goals apiece from Craig Harding and Duarte Martins saw Alresford Town roar back from two goals down to win 4-3 at Hamworthy United and book their place in the next round of the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup.
Four second-half goals earned Liphook United a point in an astonishing ten-goal thriller at Paulsgrove in the Hampshire Premier League. Marco Sellitto hit a hat-trick while Max Impiazzi and Steve Harding were also on target in a 5-5 draw.
But rock-bottom Liss Athletic’s season went from bad to considerably worse as they were crushed 14-2 by Colden Common. Trailing 9-0 at half-time, Liss pulled two goals back courtesy of Mazen Youseff after the break before rampant Colden Common completed the rout.
