FULL-BACK Anthony Straker has left Aldershot Town after turning down the club’s offer of a new contract.

Straker returned to the EBB Stadium last summer, having spent five seasons with Aldershot from 2007 to 2012. With 37 appearances this season, including the second leg of the play-off semi-final against Tranmere, the Grenada international is now fourth in the club’s all-time appearance list, on 266 games.

He first joined Aldershot from Crystal Palace in July 2007 and in his first season won both the Blue Square Premier championship and Setanta Shield. He remained a regular in the side as the Shots finished 15th in League Two and then, under Kevin Dillon, reached the play-off semi-finals in 2009-10.

Straker also featured in Aldershot’s League Cup ties against West Ham and Manchester United in 2011, before leaving the club in July 2012 to join Southend. He has also played for Wycombe Wanderers, Grimsby, York City and Motherwell.

* Nailsworth-based ‘village’ side Forest Green Rovers will compete in League Two next season after beating Tranmere, conquerors of Aldershot, 3-1 in the play-off final at Wembley on Sunday. Rovers, who once played in the Stroud League, have spent 19 consecutive seasons in the National League, formerly the Football Conference.
