BROTHERS Charlie and Harry Oakley were the goal heroes as Farnham Town dismantled Ash United 3-1 at the Memorial Ground on Saturday.
And to say the two-goal defeat flattered Ash would be a huge understatement on a day when the only slight disappointments were that Town didn’t score more goals that their dominant display deserved and that they conceded a goal from the penalty spot with the last kick of the game deep into stoppage time.
From the moment Charlie Oakley slid the ball beneath Ash goalkeeper Aaron Lucas in the 19th minute after a great through ball from the impressive Gavin Brainch - having missed a golden opportunity inside 60 seconds when one on one with the keeper and then seeing a fine header cannon back off the crossbar - Farnham never looked back.
Three minutes later it was 2-0 when Harry Oakley lashed the ball home from close range after brother Charlie’s glancing header from Rowan Sharratt’s free kick was only parried by the Ash goalkeper.
And two became three on 52 minutes when Charlie Oakley took a touch after a neat through ball from Kye Nash before steering the ball beyond Lucas.
Ash, who were well beaten, scored a consolation from the spot through Giacomo Dillulo after Town full back Jack Mitchell was adjudged to have brought down Kieran Williams in the box.
The win cements Farnham’s second spot in Division One of the Combined Counties League, ten points behind unbeaten runaway league leaders Jersey Bulls with a game in hand and five points ahead of third-placed Kensington & Ealing Borough.
Farnham are due to play away in Jersey on November 30.
Badshot Lea’s FA Vase second round clash at Christchurch, who the Baggies beat in the FA Cup in August, was postponed by rain. The two sides will try again in Dorset next Tuesday, November 5.
In the Sydenhams Wessex League, leaders Alresford Town had their Premier Division game at AFC Stoneham called off because of heavy rain, a fate which also predictably befell Alton Town’s clash on the Isle of Wight against Newport in Division One.
In the National League, second-half goals from substitutes Harrison Panayiotou and Alfie Whittingham gave Aldershot Town a welcome 2-0 win over Maidenhead United at a windy EBB Stadium.
