ASSISTANT manager Anwar Uddin’s much-heralded return to the Chigwell Construction Stadium ended in a nightmare today as hapless Aldershot Town were thrashed 6-1 by Dagenham & Redbridge.
Uddin spent six glorious years as skipper at Dagenham, leading his side from the National League to League 1 during that golden spell, but today he was on the wrong end of a battering.
The Daggers cut Aldershot deep and often in a pulsating opening 25 minutes in which they found themselves 4-0 up, courtesy of two goals from debutant Ben House and further strikes from Manny Onariase and Joan Luque.
Further strikes from Will Wright and Joe Quigley made it 6-0 before the Shots netted a consolation courtesy of Robbie Tinkler.
The defeat, Aldershot’s 11th in 21 games, leaves the Shots precariously placed in 19th, three points above the relegation zone.
In the Combined Counties League, first-half goals from Reis Stanislaus and Joshua Cover were enough to condemn Badshot Lea to a fourth consecutive home defeat.
The 2-0 defeat at Westfield Lane against Molesey, who played the last 35 minutes with ten men after Joe Pratley-Jones was sent off for bringing down Lea winger Nick Medcraft just outside the penalty area, leaves the Baggies in 12th place in the Premier Division.
In Division One, Farnham Town were frustrated by the wet weather for the second consecutive week, as their scheduled clash against lowly Bagshot at Krooner Park, which they groundshare with Camberley Town, was called off mid-morning.
It follows the postponement of Farnham’s game at Eversley & California last Saturday.
But Town stay second in the table as nearest challengers Tooting Bec had their game at Westside postponed while Walton & Hersham were surprisingly beaten 4-3 at home by Bedfont & Feltham.
Alresford Town had their lead at the top of the Premier Division of the Sydenhams Wessex League cut to five points as they were beaten 4-1 by Horndean at Five Heads Park.
Sam Doswell cancelled out Jack Maloney’s opener for Horndean before the home side pulled away with a second goal from Maloney and further strikes from Alfie Lis and Connor Duffin.
In Division One, Alton Town continued their resurgence after a recent poor run with a convincing 3-0 win at ten-man Ringwood Town.
Goals from Jack Fowler, Oli Graham and Luke Perkins moved the Brewers up to fourth place, just two points the leaders.
In the Senior Division of the Hampshire Premier League, Liphook United had to settle for a point after a thrilling 3-3 draw at home to Stockbridge.
