ALDERSHOT Town Football Club are joining Aspire Defence Services in a bid to make history this month – all in aid of Children in Need.
Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre will host an official Guinness World Record attempt from noon on Thursday, November 16 for Most Electrical Energy Produced by Pedalling on Static Bicycles for 24 Hours.
Manager Gary Waddock, plus his players and all of the club’s office staff will be involved in the attempt at a target of 72,000 watts.
The event is open to anyone over the age of 16 and any support will help raise money for Children in Need.
Volunteers will have the chance to ride one of 40 bikes used by British Cycling. The bikes have console displays recording the wattage being generated and scrutineers will be on hand to verify a record.
A DJ will provide musical inspiration and sports massages will be available to soothe aching legs – in return for a donation to Children in Need.
Slots of a minimum of 30 minutes are available to help break the record. Interested supporters should contact Mike Barnett via [email protected] or call 01252 347724 or 0845 129 3153. Volunteers will then receive a sponsorship form, with visitors also able to donate at the Sports Centre on the day.
• Defender George Fowler and midfielder Adam McDonnell, both Ipswich Town players, have extended their loan spells at Aldershot until November 30.
Meanwhile, Shots defender Kodi Lyons-Foster has extended his loan at Whitehawk until Saturday, December 2.
Chris Arthur has followed Lyons-Foster to for a loan spell at the struggling National League South club. The left-back is scheduled to stay until December 9.
• Aldershot forward Shaun Okojie has been loaned to Wealdstone, another National League South side, until December 3. The Stones’ squad includes former Shots striker Dan Fitchett.
• Aldershot Town has invited the local community to join in celebrating Remembrance Day and the town’s links with the Armed Forces on Saturday as the Shots face AFC Fylde at the EBB Stadium.
The club has donated 300 tickets to local soldiers for the match (ko 3pm) which will be preceded by a ceremony hosted by club chaplain Rev Mike Pusey. It will feature standard bearers from four armed services and a Garrison bugler leading a two-minute silence by playing the Last Post.
Lewis Trinder, 93-year-old D-Day veteran and vvice-chairman of the Aldershot Branch of the British Legion, will deliver the match ball to the centre spot, while other members of the Aldershot Branch, in conjunction with local RAF Cadets, will make a collection in aid of the 2017 Poppy Appeal.
Ash Manor School’s Combined Cadet Force will form a Guard of Honour for the two teams before acting as ball boys during the match.
Woking-based Gluco Rx, sponsors of Aldershot Town’s youth section, will offer free diabetes tests to all supporters attending the match.
