COVE 1,
FARNHAM TN 6
FARNHAM became the latest team to trounce rock-bottom Cove, scoring three goals in each half at Oak Farm.
Mark Corbett, back from duty with the England beach football squad, scored four of the goals as Farnham improved their goal difference and moved back to halfway in the tightly packed mid regions of the Premier Division.
Jack Dillon and Matt Glass also hit the target as Town did a professional job on Cove who have now lost 17 out of 18 games, conceding 79 goals and scoring just ten.
Paul Tanner’s side were immediately in control and dominated possession.
Their only real lapse came just before half-time when Cove centre-forward Dayo Oshitola neatly turned past Ollie Macallam and fired past Matt Petts in the Town goal.
Farnham went in with a 3-1 lead. Corbett converted a penalty after 12 minutes and Dillon doubled the advantage before Corbett added his second goal.
Tanner apparently had plenty to say about the goal conceded and there were no further aberrations in the second half.
The very sharp Corbett completed his hat-trick on the hour mark and fired in another penalty for his fourth of the afternoon.
Cove, as good as relegated, were reduced to ten men in the 82nd minute and Glass rubbed salt into their wounds by scoring Farnham’s sixth in injury time.
It was a therapeutic result for Farnham who had lost 6-0 in their previous outing – to Whyteleafe in the Surrey Senior Cup.
“This performance was far better,” said manager Tanner. “A few choice words were said at half-time concerning the goal we gave away. Thankfully, all was put right in the second half.”
Farnham host Spelthorne Sports this Saturday, followed, on Tuesday, by another home match against Westfield.
