CAMBERLEY TN 2, FARNHAM TN 1
FARNHAM Town were 20 minutes away from completing a remarkable cup double, when ace striker Perry Coles struck twice to give Camberley a revenge victory in the Aldershot FA Senior Cup final.
And the Krooners deserved to retain the trophy, as Farnham manager Paul Tanner admitted afterwards. “We scored after about 20 seconds, but always seemed to be chasing the game after that. We had a few chances, but were hanging on for one-nil and came under a lot of pressure.
“It was all a bit subdued after the Saturday before – the feeling was not the same.”
Just five days before, Farnham had played brilliantly to beat Camberley 3-1 in the prestigious Combined Counties League Challenge Cup final.
Tanner named an unchanged squad, but Camberley were determined to salvage something from a season that had promised so much.
It looked good for Farnham when, less than a minute after the kick-off at Aldershot Town’s EBB?Stadium, Darren Wilson’s raking crossfield ball picked out Jack Dillon who cut inside to finish expertly past Craig Bradshaw.
Dan Turkington’s Krooners then bossed the game, although Farnham could have doubled their lead shortly before the break when Wilson played a similar ball and Dillon this time took a poor first touch.
Camberley had to fight against adversity – captain Dale Webb dislocated his knee after four minutes and a harsh red card reduced them to ten men late on. Matt Petts was also proving very hard to beat in Farnham’s goal.
But Coles finally equalised with a skilful solo effort and, four minutes later, the highly rated striker scored again to ensure that Camberley ended a gruelling campaign with a trophy on the shelf.
