PETERSFIELD Town put a rocky spell behind them with a stunning 7-0 thrashing of Chalfont St Peter in Central Division One of the Evo-Stik Southern League at Love Lane last night.

Having been beaten 3-0 and 4-0 respectively on their travels in their previous two matches, the Rams took 36 minutes to break down their stubborn Buckinghamshire rivals when Joe Briggs found the net.

And that sole first-half goal gave no indication of the drama that was to unfold in the second half.

Briggs duly completed his hat-trick with goals on 62 and 75 minutes, Oliver Bailey helped himself to a treble of his own, including two in as many minutes shortly before the final whistle, and Howard Neighbour completed the rout in the second minute of stoppage time to leave eighth-placed Chalfont St Peter stunned.

The win moves Petersfield Town up to 13th place in Central Division One with games in hand on many of the teams around them.

On Saturday, the Rams host league rivals Bedford Town at Love Lane (kick-off 3pm).
