THERE was a good entry of 18 riders for the Alton CC/Owens Cycles weekly time trial.

The ten-mile H10/8 course allowed some respectable times in the favourable conditions, with a gentle westerly helping riders back up the A31 towards ‘The Bull’ on the return leg.

Jack Freeman, a former Alton CC member, now riding for VC Meudon, took the honours for the second time this series with a time of 21mins 03sec.

Dom Brooks of Farnham Tri was second fastest in 21-43 and Ollie Williams, also now with VC Meudon after moving on from Alton at the end of last season, recorded 21-53 for third place, carving one second off his previous best time for the distance.

Shaun Blow was quickest of the home club riders with 23-22. Steve Newton’s 24-07 was his best of the season by three seconds, while Paul Hewitt improved by more than a minute with 25-04.

Charlie Williams clocked 25-24 and Sophie Schryver continued her improvement with 29-24.

Kelly Thomas of Farnham Tri was quickest lady on the night with 27-25.

Regular visitor James Long (Farnham Tri), who normally finishes in the top ten, was unlucky to puncture and failed to finish.

Dick Weatherbed, Martin McCullough and Eddie Stevens officiated at this time trial.
