THERE was a good gathering around the first tee at 8am for Blacknest Golf Club’s annual drive-in.
Despite some trepidation about having to play in front of a large gallery, the four new captains – Maggie Sargeant (ladies), Marcus Roebuck (men), Dave Rogers (seniors) and Rebecca Lugton (juniors) – all hit good drives, much to their relief no doubt.
The members had placed coloured dots on a map of the first hole, indicating where they thought each of the drives would land. The winners received champagne donated by the captains and the club chairman, and £281 was raised, to be shared between the captains’ charities.
Sixty-eight adults and four juniors then played an Alliance Stableford competition and the results were: 1st, Jo Youngs, Jo Canning, Jamie Rodger, Jonathan Howe (95 pts); 2nd, Nigel Mugford, Brenda Mayle, Allen Hunt, Harry Oxley (91); 3rd, Neil Weisters, David Swann, Gail Botwinski, Rose Kenny (90); 4th, Justin Aldred, Sheila Cousins, Noel Kenny, Sandra Rabbetts (89).
