DUE to the severe weather, some members were playing their first golf of the year in the third round of Cowdray Park Golf Club’s Captain’s Prize competition.

A swirling wind made conditions difficult on the wide fairways, but club chairman Terry Adsett returned a superb score of 42 points to put himself back in the chase for the overall title.

He finished five points clear of Robin Phillips, Paul Chater and Chris Hutchings, all on 37.

Dave Hirons, back from a knee operation, recorded a creditable 33 points.

Adsett and Phil Pett (74 pts) had the best combined total on the day from Chris Hutchings and Roger Poat (72).

Other prize-winners: Nearest pin in 2 on 18th: Chris Hutchings; Twos: Robin Phillips, Dave Fowler, John Durrell (2), Phil Pett, Mick Folkes, Dave Lucking, Roger Poat (2), Chris Hutchings, Bill Birnie.

Leading overall scores: 105 Dave Lucking (32, 38, 35); 104 Chris Hutchings (33, 34, 37); 103 Phillip Singer (33, 34, 36).
