LIPHOOK Golf Club’s Junior Open competition for the Lushington Cup, in conjunction with the Daily Telegraph Trophy, again proved a successful event, with some high-class golf on show at the heathland course.
The capacity entry of 58 players from 26 clubs included youngsters from as far afield as the Channel Islands and there was some excellent scoring, especially in the Lushington Cup during the afternoon.
The AM Scratch Medal (Telegraph Trophy) counts as a qualifier for the Hampshire Golf Union’s Junior Tour/Order of Merit, while the separate Lushington Cup is a handicap stableford. Handicap limits in the Lushington are 28 for boys and 36 for girls.
In the Daily Telegraph qualifier, Thomas Rowsell from Barton-on-Sea GC won the scratch prize with a gross 72, on count-back from Arrun Singh Brar of Foxhills GC.
The handicap prize was won by Thomas Raine (Royal Jersey GC) with a net 67, also on count-back from the runner-up, Freddie Moss (Foxhills).
The Lushington Cup followed in the afternoon and the winner was James Freeman from Stoneham GC with 42 points, just ahead of second-placed Charlie Breese (La Moye GC) on 41.
