FROZ Woolston scored gross rounds of 81 and 86 to win Worldham Golf Club Ladies’ Championship by four shots from title holder Lorna Paterson.

In a see-saw first round, Paterson shot 42 for the front nine to take a two-shot lead, but she had no answer to a stunning back-nine 37 from Woolston.

With a lead of six going into the second round, Woolston played steadily and although Paterson had the better of the day, scoring 84 to her opponent’s 86, she could not quite make up the deficit.

The Division Two champion was Joanne Wilson with a gross 219 over the two rounds, well ahead of Di Kellie on 230.

The Handicap Trophy was won by Di Baycroft (hcp 24) with a net 155 over the two rounds, just one stroke ahead of Barbara Hogg (hcp 19).

Lorna Paterson and Barbara Hogg got their revenge when they won the Pairs Championship with a combined gross medal total of 190, four shots clear of Jackie Coulson and June Hunt. The latter pair took the Handicap Trophy with a combined net 149.

The men’s Pairs Championship proved a triumph for Mark Ford and Tim Gould who had a combined medal total of 170. Ford recorded 13 pars, including all of the back nine holes. Gould more than played his part to keep the team two ahead of runners-up Andy Smythe and Derek Thayre.
